It's the census to the rescue!

The Census bureau has been advertising positions for the last 6 mths or so and has slowly ramped it's hiring in anticipation of the big push in 2010.

Calculated risk put together a good chart that show the huge spike in jobs tied to a census in 1990 and 2000. These spikes are temporary but don't be surprised if headline writers forget to exclude census workers from the job "gains" that will be reported this year.

There could be over 700k jobs added to the census bureau this year and that's enough to move the unemployment needle a little.

Cheers!
